Reflecting on the Semester (So Far)
Hi, everyone! I thought I would start the post on topics that we could reflect on/discuss from what we’ve read during this semester (so far).
- Feminism according to bell hooks, and how the women we’ve read about either exemplify/embody or defy hooks’ messages
- Sisterhood vs. solidarity — and where does individualism come into play?
- The roles of healing in spirituality/religion individually and institutionally (i.e., how does a sect repair its tarnished image/reputation, overcoming strife, etc.)
- Immanence (of course we have to talk about this!) of Hagar and the women in Can I Get a Witness?
- Roles of women & the sacred of the ordinary (from Bednarowski, the Victorian era & religion in Williams’ essay, and the “Kitchen Trinity” poem)
Well, hope this jump-started some ideas of discussion for everyone. Please feel free to comment and add your ideas!
Maeve
